Our incredible friends at SAAF are dedicated to supporting and imporving the quality of life for the most vulnerable in our community.  Unfortunately, there is no demographic more vulnerable to bullying and depression than LGBTQ Youth.  The statistics are staggering:

  • 4 in 10 LGBTQ Youth feel uncomfortable in the communities in which they live
  • LGBTQ Youth are twice as likely to be physically assaulted
  • Over 90% of LGBTQ Youth are subject to negative message about being who they are

In spite of all that, over three-quarters of LGBTQ Youth know things will get better.  They have to get better.  We have to make them better… And SAAF has the way

Thornhill Lopez Center on 4th Grand Opening

I remember a time when we had EON Youth Lounge, a safe space for young adults to hand out and be accepted.  Often times, it was the only refuge for kids who have been cruelly kicked out by their families.  Funding lapsed some time ago and Tucson lost its ability to directly provide to and care for this demographic.  It was a sad time, but luckily there is a light at the end of this tunnel.

The fabulous new Thornhill Lopez Center on 4th, a SAAF Space of LGBTQ Youth, has recently finished construction and will open it’s doors next Thursday on January 18th.  Be sure to attend the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at 11:30am, followed shortly by an Open House where you can see the incredible accommodations furnished by you, the Tucson LGBTQ Community.

This Is All Thanks To You!

Thats right, you get a big pat on the back, Tucson LGBTQ Community.  Your selfless giving and the love you show through volunteering has enabled SAAF to complete this incredible project.  It was your donations that provided the location, and it is your dedication that has made it a home for the next generation of LGBTQ Leaders.  I hope to see you at the Ribbon Cutting, so I can give you a hug and say thank you for all that you do!
