First and foremost, be sure to stop by the Gaytucson.com booth at Tucson Pride, say hi and register to win Cirque de Soli Tickets.

Pride parade will be held on October 8th from on 6pm to 9pm.  This is the parades 5th year.

Tucson Gay Pride this year is themed "People Representing Individuality, Diversity and Equality".  Join the over 6,500 annual participants in attending Pride in the Desert, Saturday, October 9, 2010 from 10am to 8pm, in Reid Park.  Tickets are $13 in advance and $15 at the door.

VIP tickets are available for $50 and include Admission to Pride in the Desert, VIP Seating for the entertainment, Catered Food and Drinks and 5 Drink Tickets.  To purchase your advance tickets online go to www.tucsonpride.org/pride-events/pride-in-the-desert.

What do you get for the price of admission to Pride in the Desert?  There are regional and national entertainers performing live with Sofie B. Hawkins headlining this year's event.  Pride in the Desert will also feature exhibitors, a food court, and interactive displays and activities for all to enjoy.

The live entertainment for Pride in the Desert on Saturday, October 9, 2010 starts with our Emcee at 10am.  The individual performer show times are online at https://www.tucsonpride.org/pride-events/pride-in-the-desert/entertainment-schedule/. ; The entertainment is spread throughout the day on several stages in Reid Park with music, comedy, camp and dance.  The main entertainment will be performed on the Coffee House Stage and the Main Stage.  Following are the entertainers you will get to enjoy throughout the day and into the evening.

The headliner Sofie B. Hawkins debut album, Tongues & Tails went gold and earned her a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist with the single, “Damn I Wish I Was Your Lover”.  She produced another gold album, Whaler, and later the single, “As I Lay Me Down” that would chart in Billboard for a record-breaking sixty-seven weeks.  Her most recent debut is a live album, the Bad Kitty Board Mix. Saturday you will get to enjoy all of Sophie's music live on the main stage.

As for Eric Himan, the LGBT community, as well as, The Advocate, OUT Magazine, Instinct and newspapers such as the Boston Herald, Pittsburgh-Post Gazette, and Phoenix New Times have taken notice of his talent.  He has had air play on Sirius Radio’s OUTQ Channel, and he was nominated this year at the NewNowNext Awards.  Eric's musical comparisons to artists such as Maroon 5, John Mayer and singer-songwriters, Ani DiFranco and Tracy Chapman will surely set the mood for a relaxed evening of entertainment.  Eric will be performing on the main stage about 7pm.

Billy Dortch is a relatively new recording artist in the music industry.  Billy will be performing live on the main stage about 6pm.  Whiskey Rodeo is a group of friends that have come together over the past year.  Their motto is "Drink Too Much, Write A lot Of Music, Get Great People Together".  They are self described as "a wicked combination of desire, talent, and experience".  They will be starting the evening entertainment when performing on the main stage around 5:30pm.

But don't think that you should wait until the evening to show up for great entertainment, because throughout the afternoon there are outstanding artists such as Jennifer Corday, Joshua Klipp, Leila Lopez, Namoli Brennet, Troupe Shuvani, Amber Norgaard, Coyote Grace and 8 Inch Betsy.
.

More about Namoli Brennet

Musician Namoli Brennet born male and transitioned to female simply identifies as “trans” but there is nothing simple about the talent of Namoli.  Her songs have an edge, a rawness and a gritty realness that steers clear of typical singer/songwriter territory.  She is a talented musician and plays nearly everything.  Her influences range from Shawn Colvin and Jonatha Brooke to Patty Griffin and Joni Mitchell.  She engineers and produces her own CDs.  Since 2002, she’s self-produced and engineered 6 CDs starting with Boy in a Dress; her 7th CD and most recently, Until From This Dream I Wake.  Along with writing several commissions for Chorus & Piano and scoring 2 plays her music has also been featured in the upcoming documentary Out in the Silence.  Namoli will be performing on the Main Stage at 2:30pm.

Troupe Shuvani

Troupe Shuvani is a Flagstaff, Arizona based belly dance troupe directed by Sherry Hammond (Crimson). The troupe currently consists of seven dancers and performs with a small talented musical ensemble. Troupe Shuvani’s style is a fusion of Middle Eastern, Gypsy and American Tribal style belly dance. The troupe incorporates skirt and veil dancing, guedra/trance, sword, candle and basket balancing along with unique choreography, creating a dynamic performance.  Troupe Shuvani will be performing on the Coffee House Stage at 12:35.

More about Amber Norgaard

Tucson Lifestyle Magazine describes Amber Norgaard as “A singer/songwriter to be reckoned with…”.  She has also been described as “The love child of Natalie Merchant, Melissa Etheridge and Sarah McLachlan” by Coyote Moon Resort.  Amber's song writing began while working as a nurse in the remote villages of the Dominican Republic and Alaska. She discovered that music could transcend culture and language barriers and foster healing and social change. Since 2004, she has released three full-length albums and an EP. She was the “Up & Coming Artist of the Year” in the 2007 Tucson Area Music Awards, and placed second out of 100 bands in the California-based Winery Music Awards.  Amber Norgaard will be performing on the Coffee House Stage at 4:45pm.

More about Coyote Grace

The duo Coyote Grace is guitarist Joe Stevens and upright bassist Ingrid Elizabeth.  They captivate the audience with their soulful vintage sound, sweet harmonies, poignant songwriting, and seductive stage presence. In February 2010 they release their 4th album, Buck Naked EP, exposing the band’s underbelly with their most controversial and quirky material yet. Coyote Grace recently toured nationally with Indigo Girls and other notable artists such as Melissa Ferrick, Girlyman, Chris Pureka, Cris Williamson, and Lowen & Navarro.  Coyote Grace will be performing on the Main Stage at 4:20pm.

More about 8 Inch Betsy

8 Inch Betsy is three women singer and guitarist Meghan Galbraith, Liz Burke on bass and Steph Levi on drums.  Their style is described as poetic punk rockers with deliberate and reflective songs with tracks that address everything from heartbreak to nights of debauchery.  In 2008 they released This Time, Last Time, Every Time with single Doomed.  8 Inch Betsy’s follow-up album, The Mean Days, will be out in early January 2011.  8 Inch Betsy will be performing on the Main Stage at 3pm.
