Hi Mr.
Tony Ray,
Just wanted to thank you and I look forward to getting more involved
in the community in the very near future.
Any places you may recommend for
jobs? They are very few and far between here in Tucson. I would appreciate any kind of help in the matter of employment as
I have had no luck what so ever with the job search.
Thank you very much again
for welcoming me here to Tucson.
Have a wonderful day and be safe.
Sincerely, Dana Richards
Hi Dana,
Here is a plan to help you find a job in your new community.
1. Get involved. Volunteer somewhere right now while you have extra time. You will meet people
who will get to know you and your skills and may be able to introduce you to people who need your talents in their business.
As an employer, I look to hire active people, not couch potatoes, if you know what I mean.
By Volunteering you will also become part of your new community, help others and become more invested in your
new home.
Try different places to volunteer, find
the one that fits. You will then be surrounded by people more like you and more likely to refer you. Tucson
is very much like a small town, people take care of each other, who you know is important. It’s on
e of the things I love about living here.
2. Make a plan to send out a specific number of résumé’s
every week and stick to it. Check the Jobing.com page on this site for new postings and then send your resume immediately.
Personally, I would send them out on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. I think most people are very busy on Mondays with
the start of the new week and Fridays they are focused on finishing the week’s tasks.
Make sure you follow up with each company, let them know you really are interested. Send thank you
notes.
3. Network every week with the right people. Find
groups with your interests and socialize with their members. If you like running, join a running group.
Again, like minded people.
Finally, the most important thing I can tell you, your attitude is everything. With a smile and
a positive attitude, ask everyone you meet, “Who do you know?” Remember, no one wants to be around a negative
person, so if you are feeling negative thoughts, it's not the right time to network.
Best Wishes, Tony Ray
