As I was going though my checklist of things I need to take with me to Mexico, the one thing I noticed that is not
on my list is a significant other. I got to thinking about summer, and why this season is a single girl’s/guy’s
best time of year. First of all there is nothing better than planning a trip to the beach with your friends.
The sun is shining, and the weather is perfect. It is a four hour drive across the border. How fun is it to take a road trip, blast the music and embark on a
crazy adventure? Only in front of your friends can you be your crazy self. And in another country, no rules
apply! No work, no one to answer to…grab you’re your flip flops and leave your worries behind.
The beach is a magical place. The ocean stretches
on forever and bodies are stretched down the beach as far as the eye can see. Everyone has “siesta” on
their minds. It’s just you
and your friends, lathered up in tanning lotion. (I just love the smell of cocoa butter, don’t you?) Picture
it, you and your friends all in a row on a big, colorful beach blanket watching as guys, glistening in the sun, stroll by.
Margarita in hand while Carlos keeps the Tequila flowing. A group of bathers behind you are throwing a Frisbee, listening
to Bob Marley. This is my idea of heaven on Earth. Another great thing about being single in the summer is that there are more daylight hours to do whatever you want.
You can get up for a morning stroll on the beach and ponder the meaning of life and end the day gathered around in beach
chairs laughing with friends. If the
opportunity presents itself, you can have a summer fling. This is a season of “no strings attached.” You can
find a hot guy to put tanning lotion on your back or bring you a corona from the poolside bar. Cozy up to him for
a few days, and then decide if you want to keep in touch with him or not…This is summer and these are your rules!
This is just my vacation, but being single allows you to
do whatever, whenever… want to go to a circuit party for a weekend? Go! Want to go backpacking through
Europe? Want to go to Palm Springs? San Diego? Been dying to see that other single friend of yours that
moved to Boston? You can plan your dream vacation… party, tan, swim, love, live it up! Sometimes you have to embrace the fact that you are single.
This is the season to enjoy it. Summer is filled with breaking the rules and standing apart. Ignoring your head
and following your heart. Listen closely….Can
you hear it? The ocean is whispering my name…Is it whispering yours too? Cheers, Fruit Fly
