Can you tell the difference between
a gay and a straight man by looking at their kitchen?
Thanksgiving came and went as quickly
as a cold day here in Tucson. The anticipation of a four day weekend was about more than I could stand. I happily spent the holiday with my gays, as I do every year. I went to their house
first before making our way to his parents. We lazily watched the Macy's Day Parade, then put on some Christmas
music and went to work in the kitchen. They made sweet potatoes and three different cranberry sauces (so gay).
We went to his parents and stuffed ourselves! Note to
self...next year where looser pants. We lounged around, and moaned for awhile before making a plate of delicious goodness
to take to my brother (the bachelor) who had to work all day. He just moved into a new place, and knowing him, I knew
he had no food. We pulled up just as he was getting home.
As we made our way inside I started noticing some huge differences between the straights and the gays. After giving
him his thanksgiving plate, I quickly realized he had no microwave. Upon
further investigation he also has no dishes, glasses, pots or pans, possibly a couple pieces of silverware (unless he was
eating with plastic ware from one of the many take out sacks I saw laying around). I was rather amazed at this primitive
kitchen set up, so I amused myself by investigating further. No
food in the fridge. The cupboards were bare. Unless you count a half full 8oz carton of Odwalla Superfood. Not
quite the thirst quenching beverage I had in mind when I asked him for something to drink. I can't even imagine
that! Does he not wake up hung over once in awhile and want to make some tasty mac and cheese?? I asked why he had none of these things, and he shrugged his shoulders and said he works
in a restaurant and never eats at home. I guess whatever works, right? Don't say anything, but I know what
he is getting for Christmas...lol! His kitchen is such a sharp contrast to a gays kitchen. In fact they have so many gadgets in their kitchen, I don't know what half of them are. Everything
from bread makers, cappuccino/espresso makers, Cuisinart mixers, food processors, and toaster ovens. They have a specific
pan, platter, dish, bowl, knife for everything...and lets not forget the confection oven. I sit at the bar with martini in hand and watch in amazement, all the while thinking they really should
have their own show on HGTV. This may be stereo-typical but I am referring to the gays I know. And they all like to eat, and throw dinner
parties. Most dinner parties with us include wine or vodka...usually both. Which reminds
me, I saw an email recently explaining ideas on how to use left over wine. I thought, people have a problem with this? In the midst of the holidays, whether you have a kitchen full of fun gadgets, or just
fun people. Enjoy the clinking of pans and sizzling stove top pops and smells, bar stools and kitchen conversation,
toasting friendship, and hope for a blessed new year .Cherish this time. It only comes once a year. Cheers, Fruit Fly
