I Will Survive Aliens and
Disco Balls
I am sure you have been in several situations when the hypothetical
question pops up, “What is one thing you could not live without?” There are many ways to answer this question
but for me, I could not live without music.
The trouble with real life is that there is no background music.
I create my own in my head if there is no music to be found. But I find that music transports me to a place or time.
Changes my mood, touches my heart, and makes me feel connected.
As I write this, the song, “I will survive”
is playing. What a perfect song! We have all been in situations where choosing a song like this and a bottle of
vodka will get you through anything…at least for the moment.
Songs by Cher are fabulous too! There have been many break ups where the only person that could get me through
it was Cher. I personally like her songs because
they are empowering!
Think of the lyrics in, “Strong Enough”. I remember picking up my friend
after ADD (another dating disaster) and driving around, while smoking cigarettes and blaring this song, loud enough for the
people in the next car to stop and stare. They may have been staring because we were using a curling iron and a brush
for a microphone…but they got the point. They were scared…
There was a time when my gays and
I drove to Flagstaff to celebrate Gay Pride. We
squeezed three gays, my boyfriend and me into my Explorer. The entire way back we made my boyfriend drive while the
rest of us sang along to Cher’s greatest hits, while
completely hung over.
Thinking back, my boyfriend had to of been in hell! Maybe I need to take a closer look
as to the reason I am always single.
As I am ending this, a song by Three Doors down just started. It automatically
takes me back to a few years ago…hmmm. I haven’t thought of him in a long time.
I mentioned that “I
will survive” was playing when I started this. My friend is on her computer too and just emailed me the video
below. I laughed. I hope you do to!
