A celebration
of life, art and giving, Festival for Trees started in 1989. The first fundraiser, held on December 8, auctioned
off nearly 200 decorated trees and wreathes to benefit the People with AIDS Coalition of Tucson (P.A.C.T.). In 1992 the event became the Festival for
Life, adding artwork, menorahs and celebrity items. Miss Mary Wilson, formerly of the Supremes, made a special appearance
that year. In
1995, the co-founder and Executive Director, Jerome Beillard, passed away from AIDS complications. In honor of his great
work and spirit, Festival for Life was renamed to the Jerome Beillard Festival for Life. In 1997, three AIDS Service
Organizations merged to create SAAF. The Paper Prayers benefit from the Shanti Foundation was added to the Jerome Beillard
Festival for Life. Each year, Jerome Beillard Festival for Life continues to sell hundreds of Paper Prayers to

Paper Prayers As you look through the Festival for Life photos of 2009, you will see photos of Paper Prayers.
Paper Prayers come from the Japanese tradition of family and friends
giving each other small pieces of artwork on strips of paper. These paper gifts are meant to inspire good health.
Festival for Life continued this tradition passed from the Shanti Foundation after the merge.
